DID YOU KNOW: Manila Electric Railroad and Light Company

On March 14, 1903, the Manila Electric Railroad and Light Company was established to provide electric light and power an electric street railway system plying Manila and its suburbs. The electric street railway system was formally inaugurated in April 1905. In 1919, the company reincorporated to focus on providing electric power and was renamed Manila Electric Company (Meralco). —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
