DZIQ: Very remote chance of nuclear hazard in PH, health chief reiterates

12:52 PM March 15, 2011

MANILA, Philippines—There is a very remote chance of a nuclear hazard in the Philippines brought about by hydrogen explosions in a crippled nuclear power plant in Japan, health secretary Enrique Ona reiterated Tuesday as he continued to allay fears of radiation.

In a Radyo Inquirer interview, Ona said that in case of a radiation fallout, which according to him was far from happening, food coming from the affected area should be checked for radiation exposure.

Meanwhile, the health chief dismissed a hoax text message that caused panic in Metro Manila Monday asking people to swab the neck area with antiseptic as radiation hits the thyroid first.

For the full interview, listen to Radyo Inquirer, DZIQ 990 AM.
