President Rodrigo Duterte made his first appointment to the Court of Appeals on Friday, naming Taguig Regional Trial Court Judge Louis P. Acosta to fill the post of Associate Justice Agnes Reyes-Carpio, who went into compulsory retirement last Dec. 1, 2016.

Carpio is the mother-in-law of Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte, who is married to her son Manases Carpio. She is the wife of lawyer Lucas Carpio, sister of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.

Prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeals, Acosta presided over Taguig RTC Branch 70, which is a designated drug court.

Born June. 21, 1961, Acosta is a graduate of University of the Philippines College of Law.
