Majority of Filipinos agree that women have the right to fight for her rights, a Pulse Asia survey released on Wednesday showed, in celebration of Women’s Month.
In its survey conducted from December 6-11 last year, 94 percent of 1,200 respondents agreed with the test statement: “it is only right for a woman to fight for her rights.”
This was the prevailing sentiment in all geographic areas (91 to 97 percent), socioeconomic classes (92 to 95 percent), levels of educational attainment (92 to 96 percent), and among both men and women (93 and 95 percent, respectively), Pulse Asia said.
Only 2 percent expressed disagreement and 4 percent were indecisive.
Meanwhile, 41 percent of Filipinos shared the sentiment that most women in the Philippine society are not disadvantaged and were on equal footing with their male counterparts.
Pulse Asia said that near majorities in Metro Manila (50 percent), Mindanao (48 percent), and among those who have at least completed vocational schooling (47 to 48 percent) echo this view, also noting that Metro Manilans and Mindanaoans are more inclined to share the opinion than those in the rest of Luzon and the Visayas.
However, the survey also added that 33 percent of Filipinos agree that there is gender inequality in the country with women being at a disadvantage, with 26 percent ambivalent on the matter.
The nationwide survey, which used face-to-face interviews, has a ± 3% error margin at the 95% confidence level. JE
