Duterte appeals to CA for Gina Lopez’ confirmation
Give Gina a chance.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday appealed to the powerful Commission on Appointments to approve the appointment of Environment Secretary Regina “Gina” Lopez.
“You know, you just cannot ignore also the cries of Gina Lopez,” Duterte said in a speech in during an agriculture event in Malacañang.
“I would like to ask Congress to…They are up sa (at the) Commission on Appointments, tingnan nilang mabuti (study it carefully) and she would show you how devastated the environment is,” he added.
Lopez drew controversy following her decision to close down 23 mines and scrap 75 mining contracts.
The closures sparked protests and raised questions as to her competence and qualifications to handle a crucial department.
Lopez is set to appear before the CA on Wednesday./rga
