Female cadet tops PMA Class 2017; Seven more ladies in Top 10

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City — A female cadet topped this year’s graduating cadets of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

Cadet First Class Rovi Mairel Martinez of Cabanatuan City ranked first among 167 members of Sanggalang ay Lakas at Buhay Para sa Kalayaan Ng Inang Bayan (SALAKNIB).

Seven female cadets were in the top ten: C1C Eda Glis Marapao of Baguio City ranked third, C1C Cathleen Jovi Baybayan of The City of San Fernando in Pampanga ranked fourth, C1C Shiela Joy Jallorina of Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya (5th), C1C Sheila Marie De Guzman of Manaoag, Pangasinan (7th), C1C Joyzy Funchica of Butuan City (8th), C1C Resie Jezreel Hucalla of Nabunturan, Compostela Valley (9th) and C1C Catherine Mar Gonzales of Zamboanga City (10th).

Only two male cadets made it the top ten.

The second top cadet was Philip Viscaya of Ligao City in Albay province.

The fifth ranking cadet was C1C Emmanuel Canlas of Lubao, Pampanga.

This batch has 63 female cadets, the most number to graduate in a single class.

Cadet Martinez is the fourth female to top a graduating class since the academy graduated the seven female cadets in 1997, said LtGen Donato San Juan II. CBB/rga
