2 motorcycle drivers – one a teen – killed in Quezon collision

LUCENA CITY – Two were killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Catanauan town in Quezon province Saturday, police said Sunday.

Chief Insp. Jaytee Tiongco, Catanauan police station chief, said Cyrel Regio, 15, with two back riders, was traversing the provincial road towards General Luna town aboard a motorcycle when he accidentally collided with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction and being driven by Merlin Garcia, 50, in Barangay (village) Matandang Sabang around 8:15 p.m.

Both motorcycle drivers sustained fatal head and body injuries and died while being taken to the Catanauan District Hospital. Cyrel’s back riders – his elder brother Cedrick, 16, and Jerald Burlagdan, 19  – sustained injuries and are confined at the hospital.

Tiongco said Cyrel had no driver’s license and all victims were not wearing the mandatory crash helmets.  SFM/rga
