MANILA, Philippines—It’s a fun run by kids, for kids.

The Manila Sports Council (Masco), National Parks Development Committee and the non-governmental Youth Warriors Against Poverty and Hunger (YWAPH) are urging the city’s youth to sign up for the first Rizal Park kiddie fun run on November 19.

The event, to be held in commemoration of the Universal Children’s Day, is also meant to raise funds for the school supplies of around 500 children from the Smokey Mountain community in Tondo.

“True to our campaign tagline ‘We Believe,’ the YWAPH anchors its beliefs in the very words of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal: The youth are the hope of the country,” YWAPH founder Kenneth Montegrande said.

Consequently, the fun run will have the same theme, he said.

Masco chairman Paul Edward Almario said the fun run can also serve as bonding time between parents and their children. “It paves the way for parents to establish open communication lines with their children, a tool that could aid them in shaping their kids’ minds and futures,” he said  in a press statement.

If all else fails, the young participants can simply enjoy the sights and sounds at the park. “I am certain that our youth will enjoy and find each moment of the event memorable. Young participants will not only enjoy the fun run and the sights, but will also gather new knowledge about the heroism of Gat Jose Rizal,” NPDC chair Juliet Villegas said.

Registration for the fun run is ongoing. Interested parties may call 5022773 and 09173630004 for more details.
