COTABATO CITY — A town councilor in Datu Abdullah Sangki town in Maguindanao survived a murder attempt by still unidentified gunmen on Monday morning .

Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police chief, identified the victim as Councilor Edris Dading Sangki.

Police said Sangki, president of the Association of Barangay Chairpersons (ABC), which gave him a seat in the municipal council, was driving his vehicle with his 13-year-old son heading to the Ampatuan town, also in Maguindanao, when two motorcycle-riding men fired at them in Barangay Kapinpilan in Datu Abdullah Sangki town.

Sangki suffered a gunshot wound in the stomach, while his son was unharmed, Tello said.

Tello said the victim’s family believed the ambush was triggered by a “rido” (clan war) between the victim and another Moro family.  SFM/rga
