ILOILO CITY — A transport alliance in Capiz said about 98 percent of the public transport in the province stopped plying their routes as part of the nationwide strike to protest the phaseout of old public utility vehicles.
Jobert Carandang, president of the Hugpong Transport Capiz, said almost all of the 1,000 public utility jeepneys in the province stayed off their routes with only a few vans and jeepneys still operating in the province’s 16 towns and Roxas City.
In Roxas City, 90 percent of 3,500 tricycle units also did not ply their routes.
Several schools in Roxas City suspended classes because of the strike. SFM
