MANILA, Philippines – Parts of the country will experience rains due to a shallow low pressure area along the intertropical convergence zone, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Thursday.

In its weather forecast, Pagasa said that the shallow low pressure area was seen 170 kilometers northeast of Zamboanga City and was embedded along the intertropical convergence zone affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

“Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Eastern Luzon and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” Pagasa said.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, the state weather bureau said.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to northeast will prevail over Luzon while its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. In Visayas, light to moderate winds coming from the northeast will prevail while winds blowing from the southwest to southeast in Mindanao with coastal waters being slight to moderate in these areas, Pagasa said.
