Quezon group urges public to join Edsa commemoration

LUCENA CITY–A multisectoral group from Quezon province has called on the public to join the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the Edsa revolt on Saturday and register their protest against President Rodrigo Duterte.

“With widespread extrajudicial killings, violence, persecutions of political critics and continuous graft and corruption in the government, Mr. Duterte has committed grave insult to the sacred memories of the EDSA Revolution,” Jay Lim, spokesman of Quezon Silent Majority (QSM), said here Friday.

“Mr. Duterte was a product of the EDSA Revolution but he turned traitor to its spirit,” he said.

QSM is composed of professionals, teachers, government and private employees, students and members of nongovernment organizations based in Quezon province.

Lim said Mr. Duterte is “no longer morally fit to lead the nation”. He did not elaborate.

“We will be in EDSA not only to join the celebration but also to register, once more, our continuous involvement in the protection of our freedom and democracy which is again under threat,” Lim said.

Lim, in a public post on his Facebook account, asked Quezon residents to join the commemoration in Metro Manila.

“We will be providing at least two vans for transportation for those who have no vehicles. Some of our members [contributed money to] rent the vehicles,” he said.

He said other QSM members would bring their vehicles and leave Lucena City early Saturday.

“Our plan is to stay for only a day. But we’re ready to stay longer if necessary,” he said. CDG
