The chief of the Opao police station in Mandaue City was relieved from his post after one of his men was caught not wearing a police hat during an inspection.
Insp. Wilson Abot is set to be transferred to Bogo City, said Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac, director of the Mandaue City Police Office.
Insp. Ariston Bataluna was named as the temporary chief of the Opao police until Abot’s replacement is named.
Abot’s relief came after Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), caught PO1 Andre Boncales not in proper uniform in an inspection last Oct. 27.
Abot said he will accept Garbo’s order to relieve him.
Abot said he had been reminding his men to wear proper uniform when on duty and even let them signed a memorandum regarding the “tamang bihis” program.
“In fairness to Abot, he was not remiss in his duty to implement the program. Its just that there are policemen who are hard-headed and undisciplined,” Gillamac said.
Gillamac said what happened to Abot should serve as a warning and lesson to all police personnel.
Gillamac said Abot will be a great loss for Mandaue City, saying the police official was efficient during his stint as Opao police chief.
