Today, Feb. 21, is the 164th birth anniversary of prominent painter Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. Born in Binondo, Manila, in 1853, Hidalgo built a name for himself as a talented painter. Among his major works which were recognized in prestigious international exhibits were “La Barca de Aqueronte” which won a gold medal and “Jovenes Cristianas Expuestas al Populacho” and “Adios del Sol” which both won silver medals. After Hidalgo’s death on March 13, 1913, astreet in Quiapo, Manila, was named after him. —MARIELLE MEDINA, INQUIRER RESEARCH
