7 hurt as man with grudge hurls grenade at ex-neighbors
Seven people suffered injuries after a disgruntled former neighbor lobbed a grenade at a gate in Sta. Ana, Manila, on Sunday.
Although he was positively identified by a witness, Darwin Hinog refused to comment on the accusation against him.
The 39-year-old Hinog was arrested after angry bystanders mauled him and turned him over to authorities.
Chief Insp. Romeo Estabillo, head of the Manila Police District’s Station 6 investigation unit, said that their initial investigation showed the suspect was angry at his former landlady, identified only as Sharon, after she evicted him over his alleged drug habit last year.
Although he had moved to Mandaluyong City, Hinog went back to his former neighborhood on Crisolito Street, San Andres Bukid, at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Jackilou Pili told authorities that she spotted Hinog holding a grenade which he lobbed at her gate. It exploded, hitting Reyno Mijares, Felix Cruz Jr., Leonilda Cruz, Romeo Pasica, Jose Abelardo III, Mariebeth Geronimo and Judilyn Samillano. Hinog now faces attempted murder, multiple frustrated murder and malicious mischief charges.
