‘Penalize reporting of hoax incidents’

SENIOR Supt. Noel Gillamac yesterday urged Mandaue City officials to pass a resolution penalizing people who report hoax incidents.

Gillamac made the call after the reported kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl from Danao City turned out to be hoax when she surfaced last Friday. She admitted making up the story of being kidnapped for fear of her parents when she failed to come home early.

Gillamac, who heads the Mandaue City Police Office told reporters that they receive a lot of hoax reports.

“There are people who report alarms to us that turn out to be nothing when we reach the site,” he said.

He said taxi drivers often report they have been robbed after failing to pay their cab rentals to operators following a night in illegal gambling or of taking illegal drugs.

Gillamac said he hopes the resolution will eventually bear fruit in an ordinance that will give them basis for apprehending people reporting hoax incidents.

Polices resources are just wasted in responding to tipsters who only make fun of them, he said.
