Even as the Palace said that Filipinos should not “get stuck in the past,” survivors of martial law and millennials alike showed no signs of forgetting and moving on as they are set to reclaim Edsa on the 31st anniversary of the People Power Revolution on Feb. 25.
Over 60 organizations from different sectors have formed the “February 25 Coalition” to lead a protest rally along Edsa White Plains on Feb. 25.
But the movement is not only in commemoration of the bloodless revolt, but also a stand against the “climate of fear” perpetuated by the unabated killings under the Duterte administration.
In a news conference at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City, former Commission on Human Rights chair Loretta Ann Rosales said the protest action would be especially significant in overcoming the fears brought by the recent spate of killings that has claimed over 7,000 lives.
“This climate of fear is what we face right now, and this is what we have to rise up from,” she said.
Participants are asked to wear black and come at 4 p.m.
Rosales noted that while the resurgence of the Marcoses back to the Palace was obvious, the threat to martial law loomed nearer with thousands of deaths in the administration’s war on drugs.
The Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacañang and Bayan will also march on the same day.
