Tricycle driver dies, son injured in collision with train in Albay
LIGAO CITY — A tricycle driver died while his son was injured after a train enroute to Naga City from the Philippine National Railways (PNR) station in Legazpi City accidentally bumped their vehicle in this city on Thursday, police said Friday.
Chief Insp. Arthur Ramirez Gomez, Albay police spokesperson, identified the fatality as 44-year-old Omar Rentoy of Purok 7 Barangay Batang.
Investigaors said the victim did not notice the approaching train as he was driving his tricycle from Barangay Tuburan and traversing Barangay Layon around 6:15 p.m. The train collided with his vehicle.
Rentoy survived the collision but he died later while undergoing treatment in Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital in Legazpi City.
His son, 14-year-old Gomerlito Dave, was also treated in the same hospital.
Article continues after this advertisementPolice indentified the driver of the train as Sherwin Bernarte, 37, a resident of Sipocot town in Camarines Sur.
