DID YOU KNOW: GomBurZa

12:20 AM February 17, 2017

Fathers Jose Burgos, Mariano Gomez and Jacinto Zamora were publicly executed in Bagumbayan, Manila, on Feb. 17, 1872.

Collectively known as GomBurZa, the three secular priests were implicated in the Cavite Mutiny of Jan. 20, 1872.

Their martyrdom led to the first stirrings of the Filipino revolution. Jose Rizal dedicated his second novel, El Filibusterismo, to the memory of GomBurZa. —MARIELLE MEDINA, INQUIRER RESEARCH
