Cafgu member shoots fellow militiaman in Laguna
SAN PEDRO CITY — A member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu), the civilian paramilitary unit of the Army, shot dead a fellow militiaman in Pangil town in Laguna province, the police said Friday.
The victim Gerald Relevante, a resident of Pangil, was alone with suspect Eduardo Galay, 45, in the mess hall of the Cafgu detachment in Barangay (village) Galalan when the shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
Galay claimed in his statement to police that they were watching TV when they had an argument. He said Relevante drew his gun, prompting him to shoot the victim.
“We are still investigating what really happened as there was no one else around at the time,” said case investigator PO2 Ricky Asuncion in a phone interview.
Asuncion said the shots woke up the other Cafgu members who brought the victim to a hospital where he died of three gunshots in the stomach.
Galay turned himself in to authorities. The police said they recovered the government-issued M14 rifle from Galay. CBB
