A military convoy returning to Surigao City after distributing relief goods from quake-hit communities was shot by suspected members of the New People’s Army on Tuesday night.

Army’s 4th Infantry Division spokesperson Captain Joe Patrick Martinez said a civil military operations team of the 30th Infantry Battalion with the ABS CBN Foundation were shot at by suspected communist rebels in Barangay Linunggaman, San Francisco, Surigao del Norte at about 8:30 p.m.

No  casualties were reported in the incident.

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake jolted Surigao on Friday, prompting the NPA in Northern Mindanao to declare a localized  ceasefire in Surigao del Norte and parts of Agusan del Norte from Saturday until 11:55 p.m. of Feb. 20 in order to give way to relief operations.
