TUGUEGARAO CITY — A 16-year-old communist rebel surrendered to the military in Baggao, Cagayan, on Sunday (Feb. 12).

The girl, identified only as Candy, has been placed under the custody of the Philippine Army, following a series of clashes between soldiers and the New People’s Army rebels in Santo Niño town, said Lt. Col. Rembert Baylosis, 17th Infantry Battalion commander.

Candy informed the military that three former students of the Hacienda Intal National High School were recruited by the NPA.  SFM/rga
