Rabbit trader shot dead in Batangas

LIPA City, Philippines—A rabbit trader in this city was shot dead by one of three unidentified men who came to his house on All Saints’ Day pretending to be buyers of rabbits, police said.

Police Officer 4 Marciano Saludo, chief investigator of the Lipa City Police Office, said Melvin Morcilla, 33, of Purok 8, Barangay Bolbok, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.

Saludo said the three assailants arrived at Morcilla’s house at around 2:10 p.m. Tuesday and asked to see the rabbit cages outside the house when one of them suddenly drew his gun and shot Morcilla.

The assailants fled on board a motorcycle toward an unknown direction.

Recovered from the scene were four spent shells from a .45-cal. pistol.

Police have yet to establish the motive behind the killing.
