Caritas appeals for help for Tondo fire victims

The social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila appealed to the faithful to help the victims of the fire which razed the Parola Compound in Tondo, Manila last Tuesday.

This is as Caritas Manila continued releasing aid to the homeless residents as part of their relief operation to respond to the victims’ basic needs.

Caritas Manila, the archdiocese’s social development ministry, has launched its Caritas Damayan which includes a special needs assessment of the pregnant, children, elderly and sick victims.

Caritas Manila executive director Fr. Anton Pascual said the organization has also distributed 1,000 packs of relief goods, including food, water, clothes and hygiene kits.

For its part, the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo gave away 200 packs of relief goods and 500 packed meals.

The San Agustin Church in Intramuros and the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish in Delpan, Tondo also set up soup kitchens offering hot meals to the fire victims.

On Tuesday night, a fire hit the Parola Compound in Tondo, Manila, reaching Task Force Delta and was only put out the following day, affecting more than 3,000 families.
