Customs take up in January

Import duties and other taxes collected in January reached P35.745 billion pesos, higher than the P31.08 billion collected in the same period last year, the Bureau of Customs said on Tuesday.

Last month’s collection also slightly exceeded the P35.509 billion target, it said.

Commissioner Nicanor E. Faeldon attributed the higher collections to the “outstanding performances” of 11 ports—Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legaspi, Limay, Manila, San Fernando, Subic, Tacloban and Zamboanga

“The Manila International Container Port (MICP), on the other hand, is seen to hit or surpass its P10.9-billion target once all collection records are consolidated in the final report by the Bureau of Treasury,” Faeldon said.

“We remain highly optimistic that the MICP will bring on a 100-percent revenue collection performance and join the list as the 12th port that hit its revenue target for January 2017,” he said.

He said January marked the third straight month that the agency’s collections have been “outstanding.”
