‘Bising’ weakens as it moves away

Tropical Depression “Bising” has weakened while moving away from the country, the weather bureau said on Monday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Bising, which was last spotted about 595 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar, is expected to become a low pressure area within the next 24 hours.

Pagasa, however, continued to warn against sea travel over the eastern seaboards of southern Luzon and the Visayas due to Bising.

The weather bureau also warned against sea travel over the northern seaboard of Luzon due to the prevailing northeast monsoon.

Pagasa weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said although Bising was moving north-northeast away from land, it will still bring light to moderate rains over the Caraga and Eastern Visayas regions.

Mendoza said the northern monsoon was bringing light rains over northern Luzon, and isolated rainshowers over Metro Manila and Central Luzon.

Bising developed last Friday out of a low pressure area east of Mindanao that has caused major flash floods in the Caraga provinces since the previous week.

The cyclone, which remained a tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts up to 55 kph, did not make landfall due to the prevailing northeast monsoon.
