LOCAL government officials of Negros Oriental recently attended an orientation on Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS), a poverty-alleviation program implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7).
Around 125 municipal officials headed by mayors and vice mayors learned about Kalahi-CIDSS and what can it contribute to their towns.
The participants came from the municipalities selected as beneficiaries of this poverty-alleviation program, such as Ayungon, Basay, Bindoy, Dauin, Jimalalud, Mabinay, Manjuyod, Pamplona, Sta. Catalina, Vallehermoso and Zambanguita.
The orientation is part of the preparation leading to the start of the project in the province in 2012.
The Kalahi-CIDSS aims to minimize poverty using the community-driven development approach.
This approach teaches communities how to select, design, and implement sub-projects that respond to their vital needs.
The sub-projects may be common infrastructure facilities such as farm-to-market roads, school buildings, portable waterworks systems, electrification and day care centers.
The Kalahi-CIDSS project is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corp., a foreign aid agency.
