Talisay vendor killed, 2 boys shot
Amaranao vendor was shot dead yesterday in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, in what police suspect was a grudge killing.
In a separate incident in the public market, two teenage boys were shot in the legs by a security guard who suspected they were going to steal rice stocks.
Sonny Saumay, 36, was attending to his wares when three men approached him from behind and shot his head before fleeing.
The victim didn’t make it alive to the Talisay District Hospital.
Police said they arrested a suspect whose background may tie the killing to an old grudge.
The victim’s wife, Saminuray Salindawan, said the family will bury her husband before sunset following Muslim tradition.
In the old Talisay public market, two boys aged 14 and 16 suffered shotgun pellet wounds in the legs about 10 a.m. yesterday after they were caught entering a fenced-off area where sacks of rice were stored.
Luis Peligrino Jr., of Lancer security agency, told police that he first approached the boys to investigate in case they were going to steal the rice.
He said both teenagers grabbed rocks ready to throw them at him.
The guard said this prompted him to fire his shotgun.
The old Talisay market has been fenced off since August when all vendors were transferred to a new Talisay market near Mananga River. Police said the boys were residents of sitio Kawatan in barangay Tabunok.
The wounded minors were brought to the Talisay City District Hospital and later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
