After doctors detected a tumor in her thyroid, Rodelia Arminal underwent surgery to remove most of it.

“I was diagnosed with stage 2 thyroid cancer and I was operated on in December 2015 at Philippine General Hospital,” the 46-year-old mother of four from Novaliches, Quezon City, told the Inquirer.

Doctors, however, did not remove a portion of the tumor since it was too close to her larynx and could result in the loss of her voice.

“The problem is that another tumor has grown right next to it, making it hard for me to eat solid food. Even when I take in liquids, I can’t swallow because it’s painful,” Rodelia said.

Due to her condition, she now weighs just 31 kilos. Doctors have said she must weigh at least 50 kilos before they can operate. To help her to gain weight, National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) doctors want to put a tube in her stomach to facilitate feeding.

“I’m scheduled to undergo the procedure this week at NKTI. I’m asking for help from your readers because we need P25,000 for the operation,” said Rodelia whose husband is a car painter.
