Driver dead, 27 hurt in Nueva Vizcaya bus crash

SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya – The driver of a GV Florida bus was killed while 27 of his passengers were hurt in a Friday morning (Feb. 3) crash along the national highway in Baacaran village here.

The commuter bus (bearing license plate number POM-184) was on its way to Maddela town in Quirino province from Sampaloc, Manila when it suddenly swerved, overturned and fell into a roadside rice field at 4:20 a.m.

Bus driver Michaelangelo Santos was declared dead about two hours later after being rushed to PLT Hospital along with of his two co-workers and 25 passengers, who sustained minor injuries.

Supt. Leumar Abugan, Nueva Vizcaya police director, said investigators were verifying claims that the driver tried to avoid another vehicle which led to the accident.

“However, we have also gathered statements from passengers that the driver was driving too fast,” he said. CDG/rga
