Police release sketches of PUP official’s killers

The police on Tuesday released computer-generated sketches of the two men who killed Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) vice president Augustus Cezar last month.

Manila Police District (MPD) officer in charge Senior Supt. Alex Gutierrez said that one of the men acted as the gunman.

He was described between 35 and 40 years old, with dark complexion, at least 5’2” tall and of medium build.

His accomplice, on the other hand, drove the getaway vehicle, a motorcycle. He was said to be between 35 and 40 years old, at least 5’ 9” tall, with fair skin and of heavy build.

Gutierrez asked the public to help them track down the two even as he stressed that the special investigation task group “August” headed by MPD deputy director for operations, Senior Supt. Fidel Posadas, would continue to pursue leads in order to identify the mastermind behind the PUP official’s killing

Those who have information about the two men in the sketches may call MPD homicide section head Senior Insp. Joselito de Ocampo at 5244311.

The sketches were based on the description given by witnesses who said they saw the two hanging out near the PUP main gate in Sta. Mesa, Manila, in the afternoon of Oct. 12.

According to the witnesses, the two men ran to a motorcycle when they spotted Cezar’s vehicle, a Toyota Lite Ace van, coming out of the gate.

When the vehicle stopped at the traffic light at the corner of Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard and Pureza Street, one of the men shot the victim.

The motive for Cezar’s killing has yet to be determined by the police which initially said it could be due to a leadership dispute at the university.
