MANILA, Philippines—Even as the number coding scheme of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was lifted for all vehicles in Metro Manila since Monday to give way for cars going in and out of the city for All Saints Day, there had been less than 10 road accidents with only one reportedly injured, said Jeny Rosal of MMDA Metrobase.
Rosal added the Metrobase team was able to monitor nine minor accidents from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Rosal said this is really what the MMDA expects as people often opt not to bring their private vehicles on occasions like this, even as all vehicles in the Metro are technically allowed to be out on the road since Monday.
The lone injury was from a car accident that happened along EDSA southbound at around 11 a.m., said Rosal.
The coding scheme was lifted Monday throughout the long weekend until Wednesday to give way to motorists who will honor their departed in different cemeteries.
The coding scheme bars vehicles from major thoroughfares in Metro Manila depending on the last digit of their plate numbers.
Under the scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 or 2 on Monday, 3 or 4 on Tuesday, and 5 or 6 on Wednesday are not allowed on major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Normal coding rules will resume on Thursday, MMDA said.
