On Jan. 30, 1970, the National Union of Students of the Philippines called for a nonpartisan Constitutional Convention and asked then President Ferdinand Marcos not to run for a third term. The unproductive dialogue led to a riot between the police and 2,000 demonstrators outside Malacañang.
