8-year-old girl with leukemia needs P25K for chemo

Gabrielle Jench Manuel was only 5 years old in 2013 when recurring numbness in the thighs prompted her parents to take her to a doctor.
“She was always hitting her thighs. When I asked why she had to do that, she would tell me, ‘Mama, they’re always numb. I can’t bear it.’ And we wondered why,” her mother Jennifer told the Inquirer.
During a checkup at Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) in Quezon City, doctors found out that Gabrielle’s platelet and hemoglobin levels were below normal. More tests revealed that the young girl was suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
In the past three years since she was diagnosed, Gabrielle, now aged 8, has undergone seven chemotherapy sessions out of the 12 cycles recommended by doctors.
She is scheduled to undergo another one on Feb. 7 at PCMC, along with a bone marrow transplant. Doctors have told Jennifer and husband, Gaby, a security guard, to prepare P25,000 for the procedures.
Originally from Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija, mother and daughter have been staying with a relative in West Fairview, Quezon City, to make it easier for Gabrielle to seek treatment.
“I am appealing for financial support from your readers. We will be forever grateful to them. Five sessions more and my daughter will be ready for school although she will be behind other students her age,” Jennifer said.
