The Metro Manila Development Authority and transport leaders have agreed to put up jeepney stops from Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City to España Boulevard in Manila to ease traffic congestion in the area.

MMDA general manager Tim Orbos said the jeepney stops will provide convenience to passengers and help decongest traffic along the Commonwealth-España corridor, which has one of the heaviest concentrations of jeepneys in Metro Manila servicing students and employees.

Orbos noted that jeepney drivers picking up and dropping off their passengers anywhere tend to result in a traffic snarl.

The strategic location of jeepney stops will be determined by a technical working group that will be formed in coordination with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and respective local government units “to further study traffic and passenger flow,” MMDA said.

The agreement, part of the ongoing efforts of the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic, was made last Friday at the MMDA main office with several jeepney transport leaders. JE
