BACOLOD CITY—The Energy Development Corp. (EDC) expects to contribute 20 more megawatts to Negros Island once its Nasulo geothermal project in Palinpinon town, Negros Oriental, becomes operational in 2014.

Dwight Maxino, EDC vice president for the Northern Negros Geothermal Production (NNGP) Field, recently said the company’s 40-MW equipment would be transferred from the NNGP plant in Bago City to the Palinpinon geothermal power plant.

Maxino said transferring NNGP’s equipment would allow the firm to make better use of the 40-MW facility to produce more power at the Nasulo steam field and offer it to customers, including electric cooperatives in Negros Occidental.

The EDC temporarily shut down the NNGP operations in November last year for further studies.
