Fuel delivery trucks can now ply the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) and refill their fuel depots at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Wednesday.
This was after the MMDA decided to exempt fuel delivery trucks from the current total truck ban between EDSA-Magallanes in Makati City and EDSA-North Avenue in Quezon City. With the exemption, oil trucks can now unload their cargo on gas stations along Edsa and Naia starting midnight to 4 a.m. daily, the MMDA said.
In a closed-door meeting at the MMDA main office in Makati City on Tuesday, the agency granted the request of representatives of the Petroleum Industry of the Philippines (PIP) that their delivery trucks loaded with aviation fuel be allowed to refill depots at Naia “as these storage facilities cannot hold large quantities to last for an extended period of time.”
MMDA general manager Tim Orbos said the agency decided to grant the exemption to “meet the fuel requirements of various passenger airlines and cargo transportation.”
“These fuel delivery trucks are a special exemption because they are essential and vital to our growing transportation sector, tourism, and the economy,” Orbos said in a statement.
“We invite other groups from the transport sector to follow the lead of the petroleum industry in being part of the solution,” he added. IDL
