/ 01:02 AM January 25, 2017

A retired schoolteacher died on Tuesday in an early morning fire in Tondo, Manila.

Rosalia Hornilla, 69, was trapped in the bedroom of the two-story home rented by her family on Pedro Alfonso Street, Barangay Balut, when the place went up in flames at 3:52 a.m.

The fire spread and affected the nearby homes of at least 10 families before it was put out after two hours.

The Bureau of Fire Protection office in Manila, which was still investigating the cause of the blaze at press time, estimated the damage to be around P2 million.  —Jovic Yee
