Naia guards cited for honesty
Commendations await two airport security guards who returned the P30,000 cash they found at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1.
Pedro Surquiano of the Lanting Security Specialist Agency was manning his post at the arrival gate around 7 p.m. on Tuesday when he saw what seemed to be a bundle of paper on the floor.
He picked it up and was surprised to find that it was a wad of cash.
He immediately reported this to his supervisor, Leonel Suazo.
“They waited for somebody to return to the area for the money but no one seemed to be looking for it,” Manila International Airport Authority lost and found office head Reynon Flores said.
He added that after waiting for three hours for the owner to show up, the two men turned over the money to his office.
“The bundle of cash must have fallen from the pocket of an arriving passenger,” Flores said. Before the money was found, there were passengers who had just arrived from the US and Turkey, he recalled. —Jeannette I. Andrade
