Over 400,000 voters have signed up so far through the ongoing satellite registration being conducted by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) so that they can vote in the October 2017 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls
The poll body said it has received 490,892 applications for registration in the past two months since the satellite registration resumed in November last year.
Of this number, there were 81,318 applications from regular registrants and 72,745 applications from voters signing up for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
There were also 1,636 applications from persons with disability, 6,278 applications from senior citizens, and 801 from members of indigenous tribes.
In a statement, the Comelec clarified that these figures cover all regions except for Cotabato City and Isabela City.
It may be recalled that the Comelec has begun conducting satellite registration activities all over the country to boost the resumption of the voters’ registration last November 7.
The poll body also released 122,558 voter’s identification cards through local election officers overseeing the satellite registration activities.
Under Comelec resolution number 10166, election officers are mandated to step up their satellite registration activities, to be conducted at least twice during the voters’ registration period.
The satellite registration will cater to applications for registration, transfer, reactivation, correction or change, reinstatement and inclusion of records in the list of voters.
The Comelec resumed its voters’ registration period last November 7, 2016, which will run until April 29, 2017.
Offices of the local election officers will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays including holidays except on April 13 and 14, 2017. CDG
