LOBOC, Bohol — Heavy rains spawned by a low pressure area made Loboc River overflow, inundating several villages here on Monday afternoon.

At least eight barangays (villages) were submerged in waist-deep water.

These were Barangays Poblacion Ondol, Villadolid, Jimilian, Villaflor, Camayaan, Gotozon, Canlasid and Ugpong, said Senior Insp. Raymond Halasan, chief of Loboc Police Station.

Halasan said no one was reported hurt in the flood.

Water level in the Poblacion Ondol rose to the waist, rendering the streets impassable to vehicles.

Some residents in Barangay Villadolid were evacuated from their houses. However, many residents preferred to stay at home.

Lita Mendoza, 67, a resident of Barangay Taytay in Loboc town, hurriedly checked her two-story house in Poblacion Ondol. The water rushed into her house, prompting her to move most of her belongings to the second floor.

“The water level will still go up if the rains do not stop,” he added.

The town’s famous floating restaurants were either moved and tied down to secure these and prevent these from being damaged.

Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto declared about 2 p.m. on Monday the suspension of classes of public and private schools from kindergarten to high school due to heavy downpour.  SFM
