In a way, Cristina Caldit considers herself lucky because she recently underwent a successful kidney transplant.
“My parents and five other siblings had a heart-to-heart discussion about the operation. My sister, who is married but has no children, agreed to donate one of her kidneys to Cristina,” Caldit’s brother Cesar told the Inquirer.
After the surgery, life for the 38-year-old Cristina has returned to normal. She can now do household chores as long as she does not lift heavy objects.
Another plus: She doesn’t have to go to dialysis sessions anymore, which she used to do twice a week.
“But the fact remains that my sister will be under medication for the rest of her life. Her medicines cost P15,000 a month and I wish I had the resources to support her financially but I am just a technician,” Cesar said.
He appealed to Inquirer readers to help his sister who, according to him, was trying her best to contribute to the family even if it means just helping out with the chores at home.
