E. Samar jail raided by alleged NPA rebels

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Philippines—At least eight armed men believed to be New People’s Army rebels raided a jail in Oras town, Eastern Samar Monday morning, authorities said.

No one was reported hurt in the raid on the sub-provincial jail facility in Barangay Kalawit at around 8:30 a.m. but the communist rebels escaped with several firearms, laptops, uniforms and other personal belongings of the jail guard.

So far, all inmates were accounted for.
