Nazarene procession route, alternate routes for motorists announced

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday announced the alternative routes motorists may take during the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Monday, January 9.

Millions of devotees are expected to attend the transfer of the Black Nazarene or Traslacion, as it is one of the Philippines’ biggest religious gatherings.

The route of the Black Nazarene procession this year will start at the Quirino Grandstand, going to Katigbak Drive through P. Burgos, left to Taft Ave. through Jones Bridge, right to Dasmariñas St., right to Plaza Sta. Cruz, left C. Palanca St., through under Quezon Bridge, left Quezon Blvd., right Arlegui St., left Nepomuceno St., left Concepcion Aguila St., right to Carcer St., right Hidalgo through Plaza del Carmen, left Biliibid Viejo through G. Puyat, left to Z.P. de Guzman St., right Hidalgo St., left to A. Bautista St., right to Globo de Oro under Quezon Bridge, right to Palanca St., right to Villalobos St. through Plaza Miranda, to the last destination, the Quiapo Church.

Motorists who need to pass through these areas may take the following routes:

MMDA also noted that motorists intending to proceed to North of Manila or South of Manila are advised to utilize the stretch of Lacson to Nagtahan or to utilize the stretch of road 10 to Roxas Blvd. (vice versa) to point of destination, and all buses coming from south of Manila utilizing Taft Ave. are not allowed to enter from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and allowed only up to Pres. Quirino as their turning point.

MMDA will deploy 1,245 personnel in the Quiapo area starting this Saturday for the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Monday. CDG
