It will be cloudy with rain in parts of the country, including Metro Manila, this New Year’s Day, the state weather bureau has said.

In its 5 a.m forecast on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Mindanao would experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms due to a low pressure area affecting the eastern part of the region.

Light to moderate rain is also expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Eastern Visayas due to the northeast monsoon.

Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas and of Mindanao.

“The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough,”it said.

Winds elsewhere, Pagasa said, will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas. CBB
