Agri, infra damages reach P165M in Albay town

LEGAZPI CITY—Partial assessment of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sto. Domingo town in Albay revealed that the damage to agriculture and infrastructures in the town caused by Typhoon “Nina” (international name: Nock-Ten) has reached P165 million, an official said.

MDRRM Officer Edgar B. Baloloy on Tuesday said that they expect this to rise to P300 million.

“Many houses were destroyed and damaged. Rice fields were damaged by the flood,” Baloloy said.

As of Monday morning, all evacuees in the town have decamped. During the onslaught of Nina, 16,040 persons or 3,208 families were evacuated.

A water source in the town’s Poblacion (center), consisting of ten barangays (villages), has been damaged, affecting 40 to 60 percent of residents there.

Minor landslides have been recorded in some parts of Sto. Domingo, but no injuries were reported. RAM/rga
