CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro—Authorities in Calapan Tuesday declared the city under state of calamity at the wake of Typhoon “Nina” (international name: Nock-Ten).
Calapan Mayor Arnan Panaligan said the Sangguniang Panglungsod convened and made the declaration in order to hasten the release and utilization of calamity funds.
Panaligan said assessment of the damages wrought by the typhoon was still being finalized.
The Oriental Mindoro council also convened Tuesday to tackle the request of Governor Alfonso Umali Jr. to also declare the province under a state of calamity after the weather bureau declared the province under public storm signal number 3 during the onslaught of “Nina”.
As of Monday, initial reports from Oriental Mindoro disaster risk reduction and management officer Vincent Gahol said that the town of Puerto Galera was the most affected by the typhoon. Also affected were San Teodoro, Baco, Naujan and City of Calapan./rga
