Jinggoy corrects what JV said on hospitalized Erap

Former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada on Monday said his father, former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, was confined earlier in the hospital not due to pneumonia but because of an asthma attack.

“Contrary to what had been said and reported in the media, my father has no pneumonia,” Estrada said in a statement.

“My father suffered an asthma attack due to overfatigue and because of the weather,” he added.

Estrada said his 79-year-old father has since been discharged from the hospital and was “now well and is resting.”

Estrada was making the clarification after his half-brother, Sen. JV Ejercito, was quoted in earlier reports as saying that his father had pneumonia, the reason why the mayor was brought to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City on Dec. 21. —CHRISTINE O. AVENDAÑO

QC man killed for urinating on neighbor’s wall

A man was shot dead by a Quezon City neighbor for urinating on his wall on Christmas Day.

The incident in Purok 8, Barangay Commonwealth, also wounded one of the victim’s friends who was hit by a stray bullet.

The shooter also hit himself in the face during an initial scuffle with the victim.

Anicento Magsanay, 45, died from a gunshot wound  after an altercation with Winifredo Abenoja around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Magsanay, who was then drinking liquor with two other men, angered Abenoja who saw him relieving himself on the latter’s perimeter wall.

Abenoja, who was also reportedly drunk, called Magsanay’s attention and cursed at his neighbor.

Ignored, Abenoja went inside his house to get his gun and fired at Magsanay, according to P03 Alvin Quisumbing.

Despite being hit in the body, Magsanay still managed to get close to the suspect and grapple with him. Abenoja kept firing, hitting himself in the face as well as one of Magsanay’s drinking buddies, Joshua Cabuang.

Magsanay was pronounced dead at the hospital three hours later.

The wounded Abenoja remained confined as of Monday and would be charged with murder, Quisumbing said. —JOVIC YEE
