DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan—Another Pangasinan fisherman has been reported missing in the West Philippine Sea, police said on Monday (Dec. 26).
The fisherman, Ferdinand Salvador, 48, a resident of Barangay (village) Nayom in Infanta town, was a crew member of the fishing boat F/B Marvin Safety, which sailed about two weeks ago to fish in a payao (artificial reef) about 100 nautical miles south of Infanta town.
Boat skipper Rey Montehermoso told the Infanta police that Salvador left on a small boat without his knowledge at about 2 p.m. on Dec. 21 while they were tied to a payao.
Montehermoso said they waited for Salvador until Dec. 22 but he did not return, prompting the crew to search for him until Dec. 23.
Failing to find him, they sailed back to Infanta.
Police said they have asked the Philippine Coast Guard substation in the town to advise all boats and ships passing through the area to be on lookout for the missing fisherman.
Salvador is the eighth Pangasinan fisherman reported missing in the West Philippine Sea this month.
On Dec. 2, seven Pangasinan fishermen were reported missing in the West Philippine Sea.
Only the remains of Christopher Monje and Junjun Amor were recovered by a search team on Dec. 10 in an area 90 nautical miles west of Bolinao town./rga
