KORONADAL CITY – Three persons were killed and more than 20 others were injured when a Husky Bus figured in a road crash in Polomolok, South Cotabato on Saturday afternoon.
One of the fatalities was declared dead on arrival while two others expired hours later. About 20 others were injured.
Chief Inspector Hernani Gabat, police chief of Polomolok, said in a radio interview that the Husky bus (body number 2788 and license plate MVV-171) was heading to Gen. Santos City from Cotabato City.
The bus, driven by Rudy Danao, tried to change lanes to overtake a motorcycle with two persons on board. But there was an oncoming motorbike so the bus returned to its lane while approaching Crossing Highway in Barangay Bentong Sulit, Polomolok at 3 p.m.
However, the driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing the bus to turn turtle.
Its roof was detached after it turned upside down and pinned down a motorist on the right side of the highway.
“The bus was speeding, very fast, may be more than 100 kilometers per hour,” a witness said.
The accident happened after a brief rain, which made the road slippery, Gabat said.
